Flu Types A and B Deadly, Too

This year’s outbreak of H1N1, the swine flu, has sparked an increased level of concern over flu viruses. But while H1N1 has been responsible for more than 350 deaths nationwide, the two common types of flu – A and B – are, to date, much deadlier. They cause an estimated 36,000 deaths a year in the United States, according to the Center for Disease Control.

Tuberculosis Testing

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious disease that can spread between workers in close contact with one another. In Minnesota, the majority of people with TB disease live in the Twin Cities area. Minnesota Occupational Health (MOH) provides the required screening services for health care workers to comply with Minnesota OSHA’s new regulations requiring two step Mantoux testing.

Outdoor Workers Risk Heat Illness

Heat stress from working outdoors in the summer should be a concern no matter where you live, including in milder climate states like Minnesota. While average temperatures are lower and sweltering days fewer than most states, Minnesotans are nonetheless susceptible to heat stress primarily from the lack of opportunity to become acclimated to the heat.
