Orthopedic Open A Hit With Patients

Great golf shots were few and far between, but Summit Orthopedics’ first Orthopedic Open golf tournament hit the mark with the 92 golfers who participated. Plans are already underway for next year’s event!

At the Sept. 20 golf outing at Prestwick Golf Club, doctors from Summit Orthopedics got a chance to play golf with their former patients. The goal was to celebrate the patients’ return to an active lifestyle after having undergone surgery.

“This was a wonderful event for our doctors and patients,” said Dr. Jack Drogt, president of Summit Orthopedics. “It was less than a year ago that many of these patients could not golf or participate in physical activity because of pain from osteoarthritis or an injury.”

The tournament format was a four-person scramble. A reception followed golf, which included dinner and the awarding of team, flag, and raffle prizes. Vendors throughout the community sponsored the event. Thanks to these sponsors, as well as donations from Orthopedic Open participants, more than $6,600 was raised and donated to Sharing and Caring Hands, a Twin Cities charity that serves the poor.
