Hand Therapy Expertise at Summit Orthopedics

Physical therapy is a major component to rehabilitating from an orthopedic injury. Summit Orthopedics offers physical therapy, but also provides expert care and therapy specifically for hand injuries and disorders.

Hand therapy helps a patient regain maximum use of his or her hand after injury, surgery or the onset of disease. Treatment is provided by a hand therapist, someone who is first trained as an occupational or physical therapist and then receives additional training in hand therapy.

At Summit Orthopedics, certified hand therapists use traditional and innovative methods as part of their rehabilitation programs. Hand therapists teach exercises, align patients with the proper rehabilitation equipment and create custom splints to help the hand heal and protect it from additional injury.

Hand therapy can be necessary for a variety of elbow, wrist, shoulder and hand problems including: arthritis, fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, nerve injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, tennis elbow and tendon repairs.

Says Dr. LT Donovan, hand surgeon of Summit Orthopedics, “From our hand therapy department to our eight orthopedic surgeons who specialize in hand and upper extremity injuries and disorders, we are proud to offer such comprehensive and expert care in the Twin Cities.”

Summit Orthopedics’ hand therapy clinics are in Maplewood, Vadnais Heights, Woodwinds and Downtown St. Paul — Ritchie. To see a doctor about hand injuries or disorders, call (651) 842-5200.
