MASH Tents Focus on Injury Prevention

The physical therapy team at Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron has become known for its MASH tents at local runs and events. A MASH team consists of physical therapists, athletic trainers, and assistants, and their goal is to help prevent injuries in runners and athletes, using a number of different options.

Maureen Muzzarelli, director of physical therapy at Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron, says the tents are available for athletes a half hour before an event begins and throughout the event. “We offer muscle stretching, sports massages, biomechanical assessments, and taping for the athletes so they are prepared to compete,” says Muzzarelli. “We are also now offering kinesio taping, which is a dynamic taping technique designed to optimize performance and prevent injury.”

The MASH tents are available at an average of five events per year. Some upcoming events include Volleygrass in July and the Orthopedic Associates Fun Run in August. Look for the tent if you are participating in either of these events this year.
