Throwing Program Restores Patients' Fitness

While sports are a great way to stay in shape and have fun, many injuries can occur, forcing participants to the sidelines. Southern California Orthopedic Institute’s interval throwing program is helping those who suffer elbow and shoulder injuries get back onto the field.

The interval throwing program at Southern California Orthopedic Institute’s Center for Rehabilitation Medicine is designed for both males and females as well as patients of all ages. After an initial diagnosis of the patient’s injury, the throwing program begins to take affect.

“We address each individual’s needs by decreasing inflammation, restoring joint mobility, restoring normal strength, and even their cardiac fitness and overall physical fitness,” says Center for Rehabilitation Medicine director, Tom Burton, PT. “Our specialists are trained to treat every type of injury, which gives them a well-rounded expertise when treating the shoulder and elbow.”

The program helps treat those with injuries and conditions such as Little League elbow, tendonitis, bursitis, rotator cuff tears, as well as overuse. The interval throwing program lasts anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

“We see many high school baseball and softball players come through our door throughout the year because these sports are year round,” says Tom Burton. “With the competitiveness of today’s sports, it is important to rehab correctly and this interval throwing program will help accomplish that goal.”
